Outings

Its a horseOver the course of the past two years staff have been increasingly imaginative and resourceful in thinking of ideas for outings which service-users would particularly enjoy. Staff really focussed on physical activities which would have particular appeal to young people, especially because our service-users typically do not have the same opportunities as other young people to try new things and discover new skills. Trips included the Cliffs of Moher and Ailwee Caves, horseriding and a trip to the ice-skating rink which comes to Galway every winter. The ice-skating trip was such an instant hit with our service-users that we decided to do it again in the winter of 2008 as a festive treat just before Christmas. During the summer months staff and service-users regularly went on walks in and around Galway City, and one staff member brought in her dog to join us for a bit of pet therapy which the service-users really enjoyed. Service-users are consulted on any ideas for outings and many of the suggestions come from service-users themselves.
