Health Promoting Youth Service Initiative Health Quality Mark

NYCI AwardThe Health Promoting Youth Service Initiative is a national initiative that was developed to encourage and support youth organisations and to plan, implement and evaluate a "whole organisational" approach to promoting health with young people, staff, and volunteers and within youth organisations in general. The initiative offers a structured mechanism for ensuring that youth organisations are promoting health in a holistic way for all concerned.

In 2003 the Organisation was inspected by the NYHP. The aim of the site visit was to ascertain if the criteria implemented had a notable impact on the organisation at all levels. The site visit was an opportunity for the organisation to demonstrate how we have achieved the criteria for the HQ Mark as indicated in the portfolio of evidence.

The Galway Diocesan Youth Service was successful in obtaining the Silver Health Promotion Quality Award for No 4 in 2003. The G.D.Y.S. have made a commitment to work in conjunction with the NYHP to successfully implement the Health Promotion Youth Strategy within the organisation, A Health Promotion Policy.

No 4 applied  for the 2006 HQ Mark award and were  successful in obtaining the Silver Health Promotion Quality Award again.  The Centre has applied for the Gold Quality Mark in 2008 and presentation of the the Gold Quality Award will take place during 2009.
